Shayley Blair’s writing projects span a range of interests. Conjuring sci-fi worlds where the magic of invention collides with grim environmental and dystopian realities. Irreverent characters dealing with social issues through dark humour. Next spec drafts to make it to polish stage could be a rollicking road movie, or a comedic drama populated by unique characters.
Currently living as a pet-sitting, digital nomad in Australia has allowed Shayley the space to finally belt out a backlog of ideas at an often, phenomenal writing speed! Otherwise, she might find fun at times exploring hobbies relevant to characters lives, as they are in the process of being written. Last summer, it was sailing and roller skating. Next, it might be exploring magic, or jumping on a comedy open mic stage to feel the buzz of delivering as a comedian.
During her completion of an online Professional Writing degree with Curtin in recent years, Shayley self-published a novel, Roadside Attractions, as a practical way to further exercise the skills being harnessed. A highlight for her, on reflecting upon the process and final manuscript, was forging poetry in the form of songs and rap bars spouted by characters. It could lead to developing a musical later, or she would really love to work on one.
A new creative obsession, of crossword construction, has been a casual interest lately. The ultimate dream though has always been success with screenwriting, and she has been busy completing her unfinished ideas, and formulating exciting new ones.
